Journal Prompt:
Write about the loss you have experienced that you are struggling to move past. It doesn’t have to be details about the situation, but write more about your thoughts and feelings about what happened.
From the writing in #1, make a list of feelings you have experienced? Do they align with the stages of grief?
Give yourself permission to feel all the feelings, accept that they are normal, but now decide that you are going to work towards moving forward with creating a new normal for yourself where those emotions are not controlling you.
You can’t change the loss, it’s not coming back, and things will not be the same in your life. This is hard to accept, but the cruel reality. Now you have to figure out how to live positively. If your grief is because of a death, would the person you lost be ok with you being unhappy? Would they want you to dwell in grief? You will always feel sad about the loss, but would they want you to find a way to live your best life with the time you have?
If the loss was a relationship or life situation, is it possible that you are better without that? Since that loss, have you found a better relationship, situation, or more happiness? Divorce sucks, but typically needs to happen because of a toxic situation. Deciding to be in a healthier situation is an act of courage and strength. It may be sad, but it can be positive. What positive’s can you find in life since the relationship ended or the situation you wanted didn’t work out?
